Most homeowners in MetroWest pay somewhere between $75 and $600. That’s a wide range, and a wide range isn’t much help when you’re trying to budget.
So here’s the real breakdown. What we charge, what drives the number up, what fees to ask other companies about before you book, and why a few specific items cost more in this state than they would somewhere else.
How the pricing actually works
We charge by volume. Not by hour, not by item.
Think of the truck bed as a measuring cup. Your price depends on how much of it your stuff fills. A quarter of the truck costs less than half. Half costs less than a full load.
You get the number before we touch anything. It covers labor, loading, driving, and disposal fees, and it doesn’t move unless you add items after we’ve quoted.

If you’re comparing us against quotes from Boston or the North Shore, you’ll notice those run higher. North Shore companies commonly quote $600 to $800 for a full load. Boston metro minimums can start at $200 before anything gets loaded.

What moves your price up or down
Weight. Volume sets the base, but dense material changes the math. Concrete, dirt, roofing shingles, wet carpet, and cast iron take up little space and hit the truck’s weight limit fast. Disposal facilities charge us by the ton on those.
Access. A garage next to the driveway is a fast job. A finished basement with a tight turn at the bottom of the stairs, or a third-floor unit with no elevator, takes longer. Mention stairs and long carries when you call and we’ll price it correctly the first time.
Item type. Certain items carry disposal fees the state requires us to pay. More on that in a moment, because it’s the part nobody explains.
Distance. We work within about 20 miles of Framingham. Jobs near the edge of that radius carry more drive time.
Timing. Same-day service is available when you call before noon. It’s not a premium service, but availability is first come, first served.
Why some items cost extra in Massachusetts
Almost every pricing guide lists a mattress surcharge. Almost none say why.
Massachusetts bans a list of materials from disposal under state regulation 310 CMR 19.017. Mattresses and textiles were added on November 1, 2022. Also on the list: large appliances, older TVs and computer monitors, whole tires, lead-acid batteries, yard waste, and construction materials like wood, metal, brick, concrete, and clean wallboard.
Banned means banned. Landfills, transfer stations, and waste-to-energy plants across the Commonwealth won’t accept these items in a regular load. They have to be recycled or donated instead, which means a separate facility, a separate trip, and a separate fee.
There’s a reason for it. Massachusetts throws out more than 600,000 mattresses a year, and MassDEP notes they’re expensive to move, nearly impossible to compact, and hard on incinerator equipment. Over 75% of a mattress can actually be recycled.
So when you see a mattress or appliance fee on any Massachusetts quote, that’s the state’s rules showing up on your invoice. It isn’t a markup. Any company that tells you they’ll take a mattress with no fee at all is either absorbing the cost or not disposing of it properly.
Hidden fees to ask about before you book anyone
This is the section we’d want if we were the ones hiring. Ask every company you call about all six.
Fuel or travel surcharges. Some outfits quote a clean number then add a mileage or fuel line at the end.
Separate labor charges. Watch for a low haul-away price that doesn’t include the crew actually loading the truck. Ask directly whether labor is in the number.
Stair fees. Common, and often not mentioned until the crew is standing in your basement. Describe your stairs on the phone.
Minimum charges. Some companies won’t come out for less than $200. If you have one item, that matters.
Per-item disposal surcharges. Legitimate, as explained above, but they should be in your quote before the truck arrives, not after.
Cancellation or trip fees. Ask what happens if you reschedule.

Why quotes vary so much between companies
You’ll get three quotes and they’ll be far apart. Here’s why.
National franchises carry franchise fees, corporate call centers, and national ad budgets. That overhead lands in your price, and their rates are often set at the corporate level rather than by what disposal actually costs in Middlesex County.
Unlicensed operators quote low, sometimes very low. The risk is where your items end up. Illegal dumping of banned material is a real problem in this state, and if your name is on the paperwork inside those boxes, that’s your exposure. Ask for proof of insurance. Any legitimate company will send it without hesitating.
Local licensed companies sit in the middle. We know what the Framingham-area transfer stations charge because we’re there every week.
How to bring your cost down
Pile it in one place. Items staged in the garage or driveway cut our time on site, and time is part of what you’re paying for.
Take out anything you can sell or donate. If a piece of furniture is in good shape, a local charity may collect it free. That’s volume out of our truck and money back in your pocket.
Break things down. Disassembled shelving, a flattened shed, and taken-apart bed frames stack tighter and take up less of the truck.
Do it in one trip. Two half-loads on separate days cost more than one full load.
Get multiple quotes and ask what’s included. A $300 quote that excludes labor isn’t cheaper than a $400 quote that includes everything.
Commercial and property management pricing
Business cleanouts run on volume and deadlines rather than a homeowner’s weekend.

A 15-yard container in MetroWest runs $500 to $675, before weight overages and per-item surcharges on banned material. You also do all the loading.
